Nutrition and your Skin
Eating a healthy and varied diet will keep your skin looking its best all your life. Don't worry; it's not that hard!
Here are some tips for improving your skin with a balanced diet that gives skin cells the nutrients they need to heal and renew themselves.
Get the Balance Right
Variety is the spice of life. Follow U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines for servings of fruits, vegetables, water and grains and you'll have a balanced diet that helps you stay healthy and slim.
Avoid cutting out carbs or desserts like a lot of fad diets encourage. A balanced diet in moderation keeps you from craving and caving. Balance also helps you avoid nutrient deficiencies.
Eat realistic portions, especially when going out. Figure out how much food goes into an average bowl and split up the basics for each meal into that size.
Cook Smart
The less you cook foods rich in anti-oxidants like vegetables, the more antioxidants you'll get into your system to ward off free radicals from daily exposure. Reduce cook time, and avoid grilling or cooking with lots of oils and fats.
Hydration Nation
The U.S. Dept. of Agriculture recommends 8 glasses of water per day. This can come from many sources, but anything with caffeine should be avoided. Try not to drink too much 2-3 hours before bed because it leads to morning puffiness.
