Sometimes there are happy accidents in the lab--Zinc Firming Complex is one of them! Relastin's key ingredient was discovered quite by accident by Dr. Jacob Waugh, the Chief Scientific Officer of Revance Therapeutics, Inc., the pharmaceutical company that produces Relastin. The original goal of the company was to find a better way to move drugs across membranes to improve treatments for heart disease.
Dr. Waugh was experimenting with a specific concentration of Zinc. When he sent samples of treated veins to the lab for analysis, the lab called and insisted he had sent artery samples, which have more elastin. In the midst of a heated scientific argument, Dr. Waugh paused to review the slides and realized the Zinc concentration had increased the elastin in the veins, making them look like arteries.
He was amazed-it is a scientific fact that elastin production stops sometime around puberty. Elastin is responsible for allowing your skin to spring back after laughing or smiling-it's one of the reasons young skin is wrinkle-free.

Other Creams Don't Work Like Relastin
Creams that contain elastin or collagen protein fibers might claim to help increase elasticity in your skin Unfortunately, applying these fibers directly to your skin doesn't help it look younger for two reasons.
First, these fibers are too large to penetrate the pores in your skin, so they can't reach the dermis, where your connective tissue is located.
Secondly, even if the fibers could penetrate your pores, they'd never become functional. Functional protein fibers are produced by your body's own cells and work within your skin's framework to make your skin spring back. Because the elastin or collagen in a jar of cream is non-functional; it will never become part of your skin's framework and can't improve your skin's elasticity, tone, or texture.
The moral of this story? Rubbing elastin fibers onto your skin in hopes of making skin more elastic is like trying to make your fall jacket thicker by throwing goose down at it. It just doesn't work.
